Israel to allow 'basic amount' of food into Gaza after blocking aid for over two months

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sunday night that Israel will immediately resume the delivery of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip.

"At the recommendation of the IDF, and due to the operational need to enable the expansion of the intensified fighting to defeat Hamas, Israel will bring in a basic quantity of food for the population to ensure a famine crisis does not develop in the Gaza Strip," read a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

According to the statement, the decision was made based on a military recommendation, and Israel "will act to deny Hamas the ability to take control of the humanitarian aid distribution."

Sources said that during a cabinet discussion on the issue, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir demanded a vote on the decision, but was overruled by Netanyahu. In response, National Security Council chief Tzachi Hanegbi told Ben Gvir: "You're being seditious."

A senior official told Haaretz that Netanyahu's decision is "a temporary, one-week measure" until humanitarian aid distribution centers are established.
